My lymphedema is just starting. My internist said it is because of lymph nodes removed during surgery for cervical cancer several years ago. It started in my foot with "sausage toes" and is now up to my ankle. I would like to know what type of doctor I should look for to treat this before it gets really bad. Thank you - I am really glad I found this group of people. Bless you all.

Hey Brooke :D

Super welcome to our family here :!: :!:

You may want to start here:

Leg Lymphedema ... lymphedema

There are so many more recorded instances of lymphedema from gynecologic cancers, I'm glad to hear that you did get diagnosed and that your doctor knew what it is.

The most important thing now is to get you to a certified lymhpedema therapist. It's really critical to do this as you are in the very early stages of lymphedema. Setting up a management program now can help avoid some of the complications of lymhpedema. might be interested in this article:

You can locate a therapist near you by going to our page:

This will provide direct links to the schools that teach and certify therapists and to their "Find a Therapist" pages.

There is no specific doctor you should see...unfortunately, there isn't a specialty doc for lymphedema.

Hope this can help and if you ever have questions, please don't hesitate to ask...we're all here for you and each other.
