Swelling on right arm after 3 years right breast masectomy.

Postby reena » Thu Nov 09, 2006 6:33 am

I am Reena and I had right breast masectomy 3 years ago. I experienced swelling on my right limb ( both lower and upper arm ). Diameter of right limb is 3 cm larger than the left limb. When I press the skin of the affected arm with my fingernail, the impression remains for a while.
I have heard of MLD. Can u show me any article or massage method where i can do at home to reduce the swelling.
Thank you and Kind regards.

Hey Reena

Super welcome to our family :)

I wish you could get to a certified lymphedema therapist for treatment and followup. From the description of what is happening, it sounds like you would greatly benefit from a therapist.

Here also are a few pages of info that you can use at home. Also, just take a leisurely tour through the index on the left and the forums on the right and you'll find lots of helpful hints.

Hi Patoco,
Thank you very much for your quick reply. I am going through all the websites you have mentioned and gaining plenty of information to control this swelling.
Just a few queries here.
1. During the SLD or MLD massage around the chest area, do you need to raise the swollen arm above the armpit or can it be just resting like normal?
2. Can we use pressure sleeving to put on the swollen arm during sleeping. Will there be any adverse effects coming out of this.

Kind regards
